Hot Dog Grilled Cheese

Who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese?  I know I do!  My children do too.  So does KB.  He’s really into this grilled cheese restaurant that opened a location near us.  The other location is about 30 minutes away but this one is about 7 minutes, which may prove to be dangerous.  I mean it’s bread and cheese and it tastes so good…yet utterly sinful!

I went on a grilled cheese bender at home (I should probably make a grilled cheese category for the blog that’s how much of a bender I went on).  And I can’t really claim this recipe, I happened to see a video on the internet for a hot dog grilled cheese (except they used a hot dog bun).  So one day, when KB and I were going out and I needed something for the kids to eat, I knew I had hot dogs, bread and cheese so I threw this together.  I think the only thing I would do differently is either have a ketchup dipping sauce next time or spread ketchup on the inside before I add the cheese.  *I did have a bite of the sandwich…you know…for quality control…

Start by placing buttered bread butter side down in a skillet over medium heat.  Add shredded cheese and sliced green onions (optional).

Meanwhile heat hot dogs.  Slice into 3 slices.  Lay on top of the bread.

Add more shredded cheese.

Top with more buttered bread, butter side up.  Cook over medium heat for about 5-6 minutes.

Flip over.  Cook for another 5-6 minutes until outside is crispy and inside the cheese is melty and gooey.

Serve and enjoy!  *Ketchup dipping sauce would be good.

Recipe:

4 slices bread
shredded cheese
sliced green onions
2 hot dogs
butter

In a medium frying pan over medium heat, lay two slices of bread butter side down.  Add shredded cheese and sliced green onions.  Meanwhile, heat 2 hot dogs in microwave.  Slice in 3 slices.  Add hot dogs to bread, top with more shredded cheese and another slice of buttered bread, butter side up.  Cook for about 5-6 minutes over medium heat and then flip.  Cook for another 5-6 minutes until the outside is golden brown and crispy and the inside is melted and gooey.  Serve with ketchup.

Enjoy!
